Why DIY Jewelry?

There are many reasons to take up DIY jewelry making but high on that list is the low cost to high yield ratio. For extremely low prices, you can buy entire kits that will allow you to make multiple pieces of jewelry. This puts you in a position where you can create as many pieces of jewelry as you want while also continually improving your DIY skills.

As with any new hobby or skill, it’s important to practice as much as possible. After all, this is the only way you will get better. And the better your skills are, the better the jewelry you can make will be.

Since crafting supplies are inexpensive it means that you can practice as much as you need without feeling as though you’re wasting your money. This will be critical to the development of your jewelry making skills.

As your skills develop, you’ll find yourself able to make more complex jewelry. The more complex your designs are, the easier it will be to stay on top of trends. You’ll be able to make stunning, boutique-quality jewelry that will look great and be the talk of all of your friends.

Hobbies such as DIY jewelry making provide you with ample mental stimulation, and that has immense health benefits. Research has shown that engaging in stimulating hobbies can improve memory and reduce dementia risk.

Now that you know the benefits of crafting your own jewelry, you’re likely ready to get started on your own projects. And that opens up a new question: where do you start?

Getting Started

We know that if you Google “DIY jewelry projects” you’re going to get hundreds of results, which can be incredibly overwhelming. That’s so much information to sort through, it’s tough to know what’s useful and what isn’t–especially as a beginner.

You’re in luck though, because we have a simple to follow beginner’s DIY booklet that you can download for free! It’s a great resource that we’ve packed with all of the info you need as a beginner.

But don’t feel limited to one guide. As we said, there are hundreds of great DIY projects for beginners for you to explore. And projects will range from very casual weekend wear that pairs great with jeans and a t-shirt, all the way up to very elegant and evening wear ready.

But maybe you’ve already found some great beginner’s projects that you’re eager to get started on. If that’s the case, you’re going to need tools.

Which Tools to Get

While some projects and designs can be made by hand with good old fashioned string and knots, most DIY jewelry is going to require tools. You do not need to get every single tool that you see online or in stores. We know it’s tempting to do so when you’re excited about a new hobby, but as a beginner, you only need the basics.

This guide is a very good place to start. Most of what you’ll need tool wise are different types of pliers and wire cutters. These tools will help you immensely as you deal with shaping and clipping metal wires, stringing beads, and securing clasps.

Now that you’ve got your beginner’s guide and your tools, what about materials?

Picking Materials

Just like there are more DIY projects online than you can count, the same goes for materials. If you’ve looked at our site, you already know this!

If you’re having difficulty narrowing down your selection, it’s important to ask yourself what your goals are for your jewelry making. If you want to make jewelry that’s fresh and on-trend, we recommend taking a look at seasonal trend guides.

If you’re fashion-conscious you’re likely already aware that just like clothing trends change with the seasons, so does jewelry. There are always timeless pieces like simple gold chains or sterling silver rings, but there are fun trends that come around every season you can easily make on your own without blowing your budget.

Once you’ve identified the trends that fit your personal style, you’ll have a better idea of the kinds of materials you should invest in.

But maybe you don’t follow trends and instead have a well-curated personal style. Then it’s time to ask yourself what kind of jewelry usually catches your eye.

Do you love intricately beaded bracelets? Do twisted metal necklace chains holding perfect crystals speak to your soul? Or do you love the natural feel of wood and resin pendants?

Your answers to these questions will guide you towards your perfect materials.

Yarn and Cord

In the world of DIY jewelry making, there is no limit to the kind of supplies you can incorporate into your creations. You can start simple, with knotted yarn or silk cord, both of which make for chic bracelets. Leather cord is a great option for necklaces like the ones you see in this lariat project.

Beads

Beads are one of the most popular materials to use in jewelry projects because of how versatile they can be. You can stick with acrylic coated beads or you can try chic glass beads to really take your DIY jewelry to the next level. You can even try out velvet beads for a unique look!

Crystals

If you want to kick your style into high gear you can also try out crystals and crystal beads. These beautiful objects can really add a touch of class and elegance to your DIY project. And since they come in virtually every color you can think of, you have a lot of customization options.

Other Materials

There are also unconventional materials like leather, polymer clay, Shrinky-Dinks, wood, and even paper! All of these materials can be utilized to make beautiful jewelry that you’re sure to get compliments on.

Supplies

Once you’ve picked out the actual jewelry part of your project, you’ll need to pick out the other supplies that will actually turn all of these different parts into a functional piece of jewelry.

Our beginner’s guide or whatever project you’ve chosen to work on will tell you exactly what you need to put each piece together. If you’ve chosen to work with beads, you’re likely going to need wire to string them on, bead stoppers to keep them in place, and a clasp of some kind so that your piece of jewelry will be wearable. Split and jump rings are also good to have on hand if you’re interested in making necklaces.

Now that you have your project, your tools, and your materials you’re ready to start crafting.

What Next?

Now that you’ve got the basics down, you’re ready to start playing with more advanced DIY projects. Don’t worry about “failing”. There is no failing in DIY jewelry making because mistakes are learning opportunities.

And since we offer so many high-quality supplies at low prices, you can practice as much as you want without feeling as though you’re wasting money. Like we said up top, practice is essential to improving your skills.

You may discover that you have a real love and talent for making your own jewelry. We know you want to keep growing your skills and we can help with our extensive library of videos. They’re guaranteed to teach you things you don’t know yet and get you to the next level of crafting!

So Charming! The Best Guide To DIY Charm Bracelets

So Charming! The Best Guide To DIY Charm Bracelets

Charm bracelets are making a come back this year, so it’s only right that you need one! Here’s the only guide you’ll need to read on making your own!

Did you know that charm bracelets have been a part of our culture since 600 BC? Despite this lengthy history, these bracelets remain popular even to this day.

Who doesn’t love the unique style and creative symbolism that make a charm bracelet so special?

The best part is that they’re not difficult to make on your own. With the right tools and technique, you’re able to create a personal bracelet that’s one-of-a-kind.

That’s why we’ve put together this guide so that you can make your own bracelets that are always charming and beautiful!

Collecting Your Supplies

The nice thing about creating charm bracelets is that you don’t need much to get started. With a few key items, you’ll be on your way to creating beautiful jewelry in no time!

Charms

The most exciting part of your supply hunt is the search for the perfect charms and beads. There are countless shapes and sizes to choose from such as:

  • Butterflies
  • Flowers
  • Sport icons
  • Planets
  • Animals
  • Dragons
  • Uplifting messages, and more!

The material also varies, going as luxurious as gold and silver, or as down-to-earth as porcelain or glass.

Once you get savvy with your jewelry making, it’s even possible to make your own charms.

Don’t hesitate to gather up a whole bunch of different types of charms, beads, and accents. These are the main stars of your bracelet, so having a good variety makes the design process even easier.

Tools

The only tool you’ll need to get started is a pair of needlenose pliers. The points are agile enough to work on the small details as you put your bracelet together.

As you get more comfortable with the process, you can expand your DIY toolbox to include things like a bead reamer, jewelry hammer, and crimping pliers. These things are not necessary for beginners, but they do make your life easier as you make more jewelry!

The next supply to focus on are the small bits of wire that help you put all of your bracelet pieces together. Jump rings are one of the most important parts of a charm bracelet, so always make sure you have plenty in stock. Lobster clasps are the perfect way for beginners to finish off their bracelets and allow for adaptability.

Bracelet Base

The final supply is the base of the bracelet. The most common and easiest to work with is a chain. The links work well to hold the charms in place and make it easy to create a pattern.

These chains vary as much as the charms, so make sure to pick one that suits your desired charm design!

As you get more experienced, you’ll have no problem diving into other types of bracelet bases like bangles and knotted leather.

Beginner Techniques

It might seem intimidating at first, but putting together your first charm bracelet isn’t as scary as you think! If you ever feel overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to watch a few tutorial videos to help get the technique down before moving on to the next step.

1. Start with a Vision

Before you start putting any of your new tools to use, it’s good to sit down and think about what you want to create.

What kind of symbolism do you want to evoke with this bracelet? Is it a gift for someone? What colors or patterns would work best for the mood of the bracelet?

As with many other types of crafts, this is the part that might take the longest until you find a design that you love. Don’t rush it, or else you might not be happy with your results. Let your creativity take over until you’re excited to move forward!

2. Prepare the Chain

Measure out the length of your chain, using your wrist (or the recipient’s wrist) as a base. It doesn’t need to be perfect, and you should leave an extra link or two so that it’s easy to adjust later. Use your pliers to clip off the unneeded links.

On one end of the chain, you’ll want to add a lobster clasp to hold the bracelet in place on your wrist. Test the clasp to make sure it can clamp onto the links of the bracelet, otherwise, you’ll need to find a bigger lobster clasp!

Open a jump ring with your pliers, making sure not to bend the wire too much, and slide it through the back loop of the lobster clasp. Then slip the jump ring through the end link of your bracelet chain, which ends up hooking the lobster clasp to the link.

Close the jump ring and admire the beginnings of your work! You’re already well on your way to a beautiful bracelet!

3. Prepare the Charms

The nice part about this next step is that it’s very much the same as putting on the lobster clasp.

Each charm has a small loop on one end. This is where you’ll put the jump rings so that they’ll sit on the links of your chain. It’s easier to put all of the jump rings on the charms in one go, and then work on the next step.

This way, you’ll have a visual representation of the bracelet before you commit to your design. Spread out the charms in the order you intend to make sure you like it before continuing!

4. Putting the Pieces Together

Now that everything is ready, all you need to do is put the charm jump rings through the links of your bracelet chain. This is the same process as the lobster clasp from earlier, so already know how to do it.

If you feel like there’s not enough space between the chain and the charm, add on an extra jump ring to give your charm more length. This keeps the pieces more movement on your wrist and gives the charm bracelet even more charm.

Congratulations, you’ve made your very own charm bracelet!

Advanced Techniques

Once you’ve created a couple of bracelets, it’s time to dive into some of the more advanced techniques. At this point, you feel comfortable with the process and want to learn how to bring your bracelets to a whole new level. With a few extra steps, you’ll create bracelets that look as good as professional ones!

Wire Wrapping

Instead of using jump rings, use a bit of thin wire to create beautiful effects of wrapping the wire around the charm or bead. This still creates the loop to secure it onto the bracelet, but it makes for a more interesting design.

It takes practice to learn how to maneuver the wire, but once you get the hang of it, your bracelets will look even more unique.

Creating Charms

Using that same small wire and similar techniques as wire wrapping, you can create unique charms. Loop wire through a couple of beads for a cool effect, and use wire wrapping to keep them in place. Link a couple of charms together for a layered look.

Some people even use a tiny drill bit to bore holes into things like rocks and seashells and then use those as a charm instead. The sky’s the limit when it comes to creating a DIY bracelet!

Using Different Bracelet Bases

Chain bracelets are the traditional way of charm bracelets, and they’re versatile too. If you’re looking for something even more unique, try making a charm bracelet that uses a different base.

Create a charm bangle, or a knotted cord charm bracelet instead. The basic process will be much the same as what you’ve done in the past. You only need to adjust your design for the new material.

For example, a bangle bracelet doesn’t have individual links to keep the charms in place. You’ll either want to secure the charms in place with extra wire or simply enjoy the extra movement!

Extra Tips and Tricks

Now that you’re on your way to creating beautiful works of art, we’ll leave you with some advice to help your jewelry-making go even better.

  1. Good organization is important for DIY projects. Start organizing your supplies early so that they’re ready for whenever inspiration strikes. No one wants to start creating only to have their efforts undermined by a mess of charms, loops, and wire!
  2. Once you get the hang of making bracelets, diving into other DIY jewelry projects is easy. Earrings, necklaces, and even rings all take similar skills as bracelets. If you want to make matching earrings for your favorite bracelet, go ahead and try!
  3. Don’t be afraid to explore new ways of putting bracelets together. There are classic designs that never fail, but when you’re making bracelets, there’s no reason to hold back. If it doesn’t work out, you can always try again.

Create Unique Charm Bracelets for Your Favorite Outfits

It’s always disappointing to lack the right kind of accessory for your favorite outfit. That’s why DIY charm bracelets are the perfect solution. They’re fun to make, easy to do, and they give you all the skills you need to dive into other types of jewelry making.

Plus, they’re exceptional and one-of-a-kind gifts!

7 Jewelry Making Supplies You Can’t Go Without

7 Jewelry Making Supplies You Can’t Go Without

Are you making your own jewelry? Not without these tools! Here are the 7 jewelry making supplies that you simply can not go without!

Humans have been making jewelry for a long time. A really long time.

Some scientists believe that even the Neanderthals were making jewelry as long as 42,000 years ago.

Making and wearing jewelry is an ancient form of human expression that we still enjoy today. That being said, a few things have changed. For example, you probably won’t be making any necklaces out of human bones.

Are you ready to start making your own jewelry at home? Here are seven jewelry making supplies you’ll want to have at hand from the get go.

1. Pliers

The practice of jewelry making has come a long way over thousands of years. A long, long time ago, people made jewelry with the tools and materials that were available to them.

Nowadays, we are blessed to be able to purchase the tools we need for just about any task we can imagine. This also means that we aren’t limited by the materials out of which we can fashion beautiful jewelry. Think of how amazed ancient humans would be by the existance of simple pliers!

You won’t want any old pliers for jewelry making, though. To make jewelry at home, you’ll need a couple of different kinds.

Flat Nose

When you’re making your own jewelry, you’ll always want your flat nose pliers at hand. They’ll help you finish wire-wrapped ends, open jump rings, and complete a bunch of other little tasks that’ll come up along the way.

You might want to think about having two pairs of flat nose pliers. This way you won’t leave a crimp in the metal when grasping things. Make sure you buy pliers that have a smooth surface in between its jaws.

Round Nose

Whenever you want to make a smooth curve, you’ll want to use round nose pliers. They’ll help you make jump rings, bens, hoops and loops, and clasps.

Nylon Tipped

Nylon tipped pliers are awesome especially when you’re starting out. This is because it’s inevitable that you’ll get some kinks in your materia when you’re just learning. Instead of throwing away the material, you can use nylon-tipped pliers to smooth out the kink.

2. Wire Cutters

Jewelry-maker beware: there are lots of cheap wire cutters out there on the market. This isn’t the place you want to cut corners because they’ll just wear out quickly and need to be replaced. This is particularly true when you’re trying to cut through thick wire.

Wire cutters are an important part of your jewelry making arsenal, so buy high-quality ones. However, if you don’t have wire cutters and you’re cutting through a thin wire, you can use toenail clippers. They actually work great for this purpose!

3. Flush Cutter

A flush cutter is a great addition to your jewelry making supplies, particularly if you’re learning tons of new wire-wrapping techniques. While you use them the same way you would use wire cutters, they have the added benefit of never-ever leaving loose ends.

Remember, though, flush cutters can only handle cutting wires up to a certain size. If you don’t pay attention to the gauge limitation of your flush cutter, you can ruin the tool.

4. Ruler

This is most likely a tool you already have at home in your arts and crafts supply box. You can buy rulers specific for jewelry making or just use a regular-old ruler like the one you used in school.

As an interesting fact, did you know that the ruler has a fascinating history reaching back thousands of years, too? In the Indus River Valley, they were using rulers made out of ivory in 1500 BC. The oldest known ruler is from 2650 BC and was made of copper alloy.

While the story of the ruler is long, modern features of the rulers we know and love weren’t invented that long ago, in the grand scheme of things. For example, did you know that the first flexible ruler wasn’t invented until 1902?

5. Disk Punch

If you want to cut shapes out of metal as a part of your DIY jewelry making, you’re going to want to get a disk punch.

When you use a disk punch, you can cut circles, squares, and even other shapes like hearts in an even and repetitive manner.  Using a disk punch is easy. All you do is place a metal sheet in between the two layers, insert the proper shape and procede hammering out the disk.

There are different types of hammers people use for making at home jewelry. Some people prefer using a brass hammer because it is essentially not too heavy and not too light.

6. Jeweler’s Saw

Are you making pieces that have a lot of tiny details and intricate cuts? Then you’re going to want to make sure you have a jeweler’s saw.

When you buy a jeweler’s saw, you can use a wide range of blade sizes. They also come in different sizes of blade frames.

7. Wire

You can purchase wire in lots of different materials. Rose gold, gold-filled, sterling silver, copper, and aluminum wire are just some of your options. They also come in different sizes which are measured in gauges.

Just so you know, gauge is frequently abbreviated as “ga.” That means if a wire is 20 gauge, you might see it written as 20ga.

Wire also comes in different shapes. You can find wire that is round, square, half round, and twisted.

Something important to understand that this measurement system works somewhat counterintuitively. Basically, the thinner the wire, the higher it’s gauge number is.

Practice Material

First of all, when you’re just getting started you want to have material to practice with. Get some wire of different sizes in copper or another base material. This is a great way to help you get a sense and a feel for the craft without putting too much pressure on yourself or spending too much money.

If you know any more experienced jewelry makers, you could ask them if they have any scraps to spare. It’s a great idea to get a sense of the hand-feel of jewelry making before jumping into your first project.

24-Gauge Wire

As explained earlier, 24-gauge wire is thicker than 30-gauge wire. This wire is good to have in your jewelry-making kit when you are using beads with larger holes or for pieces that could use a little extra strength.

26-Gauge Wire

This wire is both hefty enough to be secure but think enough to make it so wire-wrapping is no problem. Thin enough to fit through most beads you’ll encounter, this is a great standard wire size. Remember to be careful to not bend or crimp it too many times, though, as it isn’t a very sturdy size.

28- or 30-Gauge Wire

Are you planning on working with tiny beads made of precious stone? If so, you’ll be dealing with their itty-bitty holes. For this purpose, you’ll want to keep some extra-thin wire on hand.

Remember, though, this super thin wire isn’t great for wire-wrapping precious stone beads onto a piece of jewelry that will experience a bit of jostling in its daily wear. It’s delicate and should be treated as such.

True Friends: Best Beads to Use When Making a Friendship Bracelet

True Friends: Best Beads to Use When Making a Friendship Bracelet

Are you and your friends making friendship bracelets for one another? The you won’t want to miss out on this guide on the best beads to use!

It’s been a long year. Whether you’re working 16-hour shifts at an overcrowded hospital, your 9-5 has you trekking to and fro in a mask, or you’re stuck behind a computer all day, you’re struggling to make ends meet in the midst of a global economic crisis.

We could all use a break.

If you’re fortunate enough to know the joy of jewelry-making, you know how relaxing, peaceful, and creatively stimulating it can be. While TV and video games have their merits, it’s wonderful to create something you can hold, touch, keep, or give away.

Jewelry making is one of those hobbies, and friendship bracelets are among the most rewarding pieces of jewelry to create. With the variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and materials, you can make pieces that say precisely what you want about your friendship with another person — all at home!

Beads have a long history of meaning in jewelry, and there’s a message for every person in your life. Plus, adults can make bracelets, too! Come with us as we explore what you can say with the variety of materials in today’s friendship bracelets.

What’s in a Bead?

Though most of us know the basics of the symbolism of stones like diamonds and pearls, there are so many materials from all over the world that the message in each bead can be combined to compose a poem for the recipient.

In addition to the material, the color, size, and nature of each bead define the nature of the bracelet.

Color

Color is among the easiest of the symbolic gestures to understand. There are even mood rings that define one’s emotions by the color it changes to when worn. Color is essential in the symbolism of jewelry.

We’ll evaluate them based on the order of the colors in the rainbow, with a few exceptions due to the nature of the craft.

Red

Red is a color often associated with intense emotions. While red can convey emotions like love, passion, and sexuality, it can also symbolize anger, danger, and sacrifice. The beads you select to complement red beads when making a friendship bracelet should convey complementary emotions like peace, affection, and goodwill.

Pink

While pink is typically associated with femininity in the western world, selecting the shade of pink you use is as important as the complementary colors you choose. Light, pale pink is often associated with love and gentleness. Middle pink conveys sentimentality and romance, and hot pink represents youth, vigor, and excitement.

Pink can be a great color to offset the intensity of red and clarify its intent.

Orange

Orange is a color of vitality — and for good reason! Whether because it’s associated with its fruity namesake or because it’s a blend of passionate red and optimistic yellow, orange beads add excitement and life to any friendship bracelet.

Yellow

Think happy thoughts! Yellow is the color of optimism, friendliness, joy, energy, and cheerfulness. But as we all know, it’s the color used for caution tape, street signs, and safety vests, so it’s easy to be perceived as a cautionary color.

It can be dangerous to combine red and yellow, as the implications of danger and caution can be visually alarming. This is when elements like finish, material, size, and shape come into play.

Green

The word green derives from the roots for “grass” and “grow.” It is the color of vitality, growth, life, and sustainability. But be careful who you’re making it for! US money is green, and using darker green beads can convey wealth, abundance, and prestige, which is great if that’s what you want for your friend!

Blue

It may be the most diverse color on the list. Blue may be most often associated with the ocean — meaning nature — conveying peace, calm, and placidity. Blue can also mean royalty or the military and convey messages like trustworthiness and reliability.

However, blue can also convey feelings of sadness and depression. Because of this, choosing your shade of blue is important. Sky, turquoise, and teal are more natural (hence the names). Royal, navy, or slate convey loyalty and dependability, and deep shades like midnight, space, or steel can seem depressing.

Choose wisely when selecting blue beads for your friendship bracelet.

Purple

As royal as blue can be, purple is truly the color of nobility, royalty, and grace. Lighter shades are feminine and nostalgic, like lavender, while darker shades convey opulence and mystery, like violet. Purple is also sometimes associated with arousal, so it can be interesting to play with it, considering the intent of the bracelet.

White

It’s the color of purity, perfection, innocence, and simplicity. It can be hard to use white beads successfully in bracelets sometimes, depending on what other colors you’re using. But if you’re able to utilize white beads successfully, you can convey your reliability and trustworthiness as a friend.

Brown

While brown is undoubtedly a natural color, it doesn’t exactly convey life and vitality the way green does. Brown is sturdy, durable, and honest, which is why a lot of makeup and organic food brands use it. Using brown beads in your friendship bracelet conveys an everlasting relationship.

Black

Luxury, power, exclusivity on one hand, and death, evil, and mystery on the other. You don’t trifle with black. It’s a beautifully high-contrast color, so use it in combination with colors like gold, white, yellow, and orange to convey the nuance and mystery in your friendships!

Materials

One of the most exciting things about selecting beads is the selection of materials! Stone has been used by civilizations for ages and has accumulated complex and deeply-embedded symbology. Materials can convey things like health, courage, commitment, wisdom, stability, and more!

While we can’t go into all of the stone beads available to you as a DIY craft connoisseur, there is a selection of materials whose historical and cultural significance is so great that they’ve become somewhat mythical in themselves.

Garnet (Red)

Passion, creativity, and determination make garnet a dead ringer for the color it most often represents. Adding garnet to a friendship bracelet implies fierce loyalty and friendship and intensity of emotion toward that person. Garnet can be expensive as well, but it is easy to simulate with cheaper materials.

Tiger Eye (Yellow/Brown)

If you’re impressed by your friend’s intelligence, you may want to consider using Tiger Eye in your friendship bracelet! It represents insight, confidence, and balance, and its brown and yellow swirls combine optimism and honesty. Tiger Eye is a wonderful stone for conveying respect for someone’s intellect.

Green Jade (Green)

Because of the green jade’s association with serenity, wisdom, and power, Southeast Asian countries often used it in royal and spiritual capacities. Using green jade beads can sometimes be expensive, but the stone comes packed with the history of entire dynasties and can lend a regal, eternal quality to a friendship bracelet.

Aquamarine (Blue)

As the name implies, aquamarine is an ocean-like or sky-like material that symbolizes courage, balance, and peace. This is an excellent bead for someone who calms you down—your “rock.” It’s one of the most easily found affordable options, too!

Crystal (Multi)

There is a huge variety of colors, shades, qualities, and finishes in crystal beads, from Swarovski to rhinestone, so the stylistic options are endless! Crystal carries its own meaning (rather than being a diamond replacement) and conveys health, protection, and positivity. Crystal beads indicate affectionate or motherly feelings toward someone.

Pearl (White)

Is there anything more classic than a pearl? It means innocence, grace, and wealth — Audrey Hepburn in a precious stone. Use pearls like a compliment; “you’re beautiful, graceful, classic, and so is our friendship.”

Lava Stone (Black)

It’s been heralded as an expensive option, but some variations can lower prices. Lava stone is indicative of strength, passion, and creation. Use lava stone when you’re trying to convey that the other person brings out the “poet” in you, so to speak.

What Is the Best Way to Buy Beads?

How lucky we are that we have so many ways to purchase the things we need to create the crafts we love! While it’s a blessing to many, it can seem like a curse when you consider things like variations in price, shipping costs and methods, and responsible sourcing. It’s nice to know you’ve gotten the best deal on the best beads.

Online options are great for price comparisons. You can be almost sure you’re getting the best deal on the beads due to the low cost in comparison with brick-and-mortar stores. Drawbacks of purchasing online include long shipping waits and the lack of reliability in sourcing management.

Craft stores and DIY outlets are a wonderful place to buy beads as well. While you may not get the same prices you would online, there’s no wait, and there are often professionals that can help you hone in on the best options for your price range and how you’ll be using the beads.

You can also purchase specific beads from crafters and DIY professionals who make glass beads, lava beads, gold, silver, crystal, and more. Beware, though, you’ll pay a premium price for the premium nature of the beads!

You can even buy used craft supplies if people no longer need unused materials they’ve purchased.

The Best Beads for My Friendship Bracelets

What better way to spend your free time than by making something that someone will love, cherish, and appreciate for ages to come?

You know the significance of the color of beads and have a starting point on which to start selecting materials based both on those colors and the messages you’re going for. Pearl Knotting Masterclass

Pearl knotting is the practice of tying knots between the pearls strung in a necklace. Next time you are looking at a pearl strand, take a closer look at the cord. Chances are you will see knots between the pearls on it.

One of the reasons to knot pearls is to keep all of them from falling off the strand if it breaks. If that happens, the knots will ensure that no more than one or two pearls drop on the floor instead of all at once.

In this class, you will learn knot your way through different pearl knotting techniques then you will be able to practice your skills by making a knotted pearl bracelet and matching earrings.

Here are the supplies you will need:

Pearl Knotting Techniques

In this episode Chloe will talk a little about the history of pearl knotting and go over several techniques and tools used to master this method!

Now you’ve learned all the techniques, it’s time to put them to the test with our first project.

Join Chloe and make a pearl knotted bracelet, which will go well with our next project!

One of the last things she told me was “keep it up ” “keep on with jewelry” From my childhood days I remember stringing fruit loops on yarn and making candy bracelets at her house. When I see butterflies or Mariposa I think of her. And maybe when a butterfly crosses my path it is her way of saying “hi”.”
